After a year filled with legal battles and a host of new rules for New York City process servers, process serving professionals from that area will finally be able to discuss recent events with their peers from around the state and beyond.

The New York State Professional Process Servers Association (NYSPPSA) will convene for its annual conference Sept. 16-18 in Saratoga Springs, New York. NYSPPSA Past-President and Conference Co-Chair Jillina Kwiatkowski said that with local servers still digesting the many recent New York City process server rule changes, this particular conference has added importance.

“Uniting as a brotherhood and fighting legislation makes it more important to belong to an association than ever,” she said.

Learn about the new NYC rules
New York City has recently imposed many new rules for process servers regarding record-keeping. Kwiatkowski pointed out that many of the rules are completely different than how people have historically run their practices, which makes it crucial to understand how to remain in compliance. During the conference, NYSPPSA will hold a seminar from 9 a.m.-noon Sept. 17 that will explain the new rules and compliance procedures.

Gain a new perspective on traverse hearings
Warren County Supreme Court Justice Krogman will present "Traverse Hearings: A View from the Bench" from 9:15-10 a.m. Sept. 17. This informative talk will feature Krogman's take on how judges conduct traverse hearings and what they’re looking for.

Attend a certification class
From 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 18, NYSPPSA will hold a certification class geared toward the new compliance laws.

Network with your peers
The conference will feature plenty of networking opportunities. Attendees can participate in a poker tournament, mingle during cocktail hours, converse during meals and celebrate achievements at the banquet and awards presentations.
