Process Servers Get Help from an Unexpected Source

MIAMI, FL -- In most states, borrowers can be sued by lenders even after a foreclosure. Borrowers are allowed to pursue legal action to recover debts that remain on a home loan after the foreclosure sale. In cases where a foreclosure sale yields less than is owed on the property, lenders pursue debtors through process servers and the court system. In some neighborhoods, including the Palm Bay Yacht Club condo, residents have volunteered to monitor the area to find neighbors who owe money. When they see the residents, they report sightings to process servers so that the borrowers can be served. Many residents who volunteer in this capacity are frustrated that foreclosures hurt their property values and want to see borrowers made responsible.
