Fort Collins process serving questions

Who is allowed to serve papers in Fort Collins?
Any adult who isn't a party to the case. Colorado doesn't license process servers (C.R.C.P. 4(d)).

How long do I have to serve?
In a district court case, a defendant generally has to be served within 63 days after the complaint is filed (C.R.C.P. 4(m)). See service deadlines explained.

Why not have the sheriff do it?
The sheriff serves civil papers inside Larimer County, but needs a current street address and doesn't rush jobs. A private server can try at different times of day, work to your deadline and track down someone who has moved, which is common in a college town where many renters change addresses every year.

What does it cost?
It depends on the address, the number of attempts and how fast you need it. Our guide covers process server costs.

To get started, call a firm on this page with the name and address of the person or business you need served, and your deadline. For the full rules, read Colorado process serving laws. This is a general summary, not legal advice.
